Should You Use a Used ATV Helmet?

The simple answer to that question is a resounding, "No!"; however if you want to know the real reasons why you should never use a used ATV helmet, read on.

First of all, there is more than just one reason not to use a helmet that has been used. A helmet is good for one impact only and that doesn't mean an accident. Some helmets have developed hairline cracks in their interiors from simply rolling off the top of a closet shelf and hitting the floor with an unceremonious thunk and guess what? That helmet can't promise you protection anymore.

Another reason using a used ATV helmet may not be the best decision you can make is because the glues and resins used to make up the helmet and hold the foam padding place simply disintegrates over time and nothing can stop that. The process of disintegration can further be hastened if the helmet has been stored around substances with a strong odor such as gasoline which is a common weakener of helmets in storage. The last point to make to is that if you don't know the true age and history of the helmet, it may not be a genuine article from a manufacturer that meets the standards set by Snell for helmet.

So, make sure you know where you helmet came from and best of all, buy it yourself so you know for certain that you're getting a new ATV helmet, you're getting a trusted name brand and most of all you're buying peace of mind knowing that your protected - just in case.
